| Commerce includes trade and aids to trade. Trade is purchase and sale of goods and aids to trade include banks, infrastructure, insurance, transport and advertising which contribute to widen the scope of commerce. Commerce is a very important part of any business. Why? Well, because it attempts to satisfy human needs and wants. It also contributes to link producers of products and services with the customers. The scope of modern commerce has become very wide, perhaps it has no boundary at all, because it has crossed the boundaries of nations, and it has acquired an international status. Scope of commerce includes the role played by trade and aids to trade, whether it’s public or private sector. Digitization of various commercial processes, especially sales and purchases has enabled businesses to engage in commercial activities depending on demand, whether the presence is direct or indirect. Nowadays each and every organisation is in need of commerce. For examples, government needs to account for income and expenditure for running a country, for framing fiscal and economic policies; a company or any business unit needs to look at demand for products and services, supply it accordingly, budget for expenses and revenues, manage its internal affairs; an individual will need to plan for his budget for satisfying his wants with his available income and limited resources. Each unit of an economy, no matter how small, has its play or role in a country’s economy. And these economic units determine production, supply and demand of goods and services. Importance :- Every individual has his wants. Human wants are unlimited but to satisfy them, resources are limited. In earlier days, without commerce, people were able to satisfy only their basic needs, that too, in a limited way. After sometime, humans traded to satisfy more of their wants, first with barter system and later with money system. Money enabled exchange of goods in a better and simpler way. The internet and digitisation added further push towards fulfilling wants. Nowadays, any person can order any product from almost any part of world with access to required infrastructure. This is possible only because of trade and factors supporting trade including internet. Not only commerce has helped in satisfying more human wants, but also it has helped in increasing standard of living. Commerce has enabled access to goods and services at an appropriate time and place. It has also let producers know what consumers demand and also the demand-supply gap of a product or service, if any. With the growth of commerce through centuries and decades, employment opportunities have increased to a greater extent. Especially when it comes to aids to trade, more and more people are needed for sectors like transportation, banks, insurance, advertising, warehousing etc. These sectors enable linking of consumers with producers. Increase in trade helps in expansion of aids to trade and expansion of aids to trade enables more trade to be conducted. Hence both trade and aids to trade complement one another to grow and contribute towards GDP and national income. As the trade grows, it also helps in growth of businesses and contributes towards industrial development of any country. Scope of commerce includes the roles played by the following: Trade. Aids to trade. Documents of trade. Commercial office. Commercial organisations. Marketing services. Goods and services. |
